When
guitarist Link Wray, responsible for the crunching rowdiness of the 1958
instrumental million–seller ‘Rumble’, paid The Who a fraternal visit in the
London studio where they were recording, Moon, seemingly beside himself with
excitement, flung off all his clothes to cavort round the complex, arms waving.
‘Rumble! Rumble!,’ he kept yowling. And what about the night he won a bet that
he could break into Mick Jagger’s eleventh floor hotel room? Clambering up the
wall Spider Man–style, Moon burst through the open window to face the barrel of
a revolver that Mick pulled from beneath a pillow. Though startled from slumber
too, Bianca subjected her spouse to a jocular scolding for so alarming the
intruder, before dressing, applying make–up, and going dancing with Moon while
Mick remained huddled, bemused, under the bedclothes.
