girls just became wild and violent and made this weird, bestial sound

They lay down something very violent in the lines of rhythm and blues. They were enthusiasts then; they cared a lot about their music. They were mean and nasty, full blooded, very testy, and they beat out the toughest, crudest, most offensive noise an English band had ever made. Naughty but nice, they were liked by the Aldermaston marchers and hitch-hikers, beards and freaks and pre-neanderthal Mods everywhere. Simply, they were turning into the voice of hooliganism. Keith Richards wore T-shirts. All the time, he kept winding and unwinding his legs, ugly like a crab; he was shut in, shuffling, the classic school drop-out. Simply, he spelled Borstal ... Anita tore into him. “ ‘I haven’t been fucked in months!’ she screamed. ‘Is television more important than me? You think you’re Superman, don’t you? You think you can handle drugs but you can’t. You pretend you don’t have a drug habit. You simply go upstairs to the bathroom. You think people don’t know. You’re no different than anyone else. You can’t handle drugs either.’ Silently Richards continued to stare at the television. If you looked closely, you could see his eyes filled with water.
