As soon as purple hearts disappeared new kinds of amphetamines appeared. French blues, dexedrine and black bombers all hit the clubs. 'Blues' were light blue with a line down the middle and supposed to be double the strength of the old purple hearts. 'Black Bombers' were black capsules and very strong. Lots of kids wouldn't touch them. They were about 2/- each and probably damaged many a brain. 'Dexes' were yellow and cost a shilling. Kids were getting silly and swallowing anything. The trouble with pills or 'speed' or 'dubes' or 'leapers' was that all that incredible dynamism and boundless euphoria had to be paid for. Kids thought they were indestructable. What they didn't realise was that you couldn't 'get nothing for nothing'. What was gained on the swings had to be paid for on the roundabouts.
