Nowadays young musicianers think they've just naturally got to act crazy if you want to play. They've got reefers and they've got gin and they've got women and they've got all that crazy jive-talk, all that stuff about 'gate' and 'tea' and being real 'cool'. Five hours of conversation, one minute of playing that's what it amounts to. But if you really mean to play your instrument, this jive business has got nothing to do with it. If you really mean to play, you've got to do some remembering.
